Don’t Worry (da da da da da) About a Thing… (April Update)

 What’s up!

Isn’t it funny how we can read something and associate it with a song or memory in our heads? I wanted to title this blog, “Don’t Worry” but then I started singing the song in my head and just HAD to add the rest of the line. Then I kept singing the rest, “Cause every little thing is gonna be alright!”

I’ve recently been reflecting on Matthew 6:25-34. It says, Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your Heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”

What are you worried about right now? What is weighing heavily on your mind, causing anxiety and/or stress?

I find myself trying to grasp tightly to control of any given thing by worrying and stressing. When it’s not going the way I plan or something unforeseen happens, I try and grip even tighter. But we are told in this passage not to worry. Simple as that. It’s that simple because of God’s character and who He is. He loves us and cares for us SO deeply, and walks alongside everything we do when we are in relationship with Him. If he takes care of the birds, the grass, His Creation… what makes us think He will not care for us??

I hope you will take a second to unclench your hands/control on the thing(s) you are worried about. Talk to God about it, and offer Him control. And see what happens! I think much peace comes from trusting and giving our lives to God.

March was a great month, and April has started out strong! Since it’s confusing to write an update for the previous month, I am going to start titling my blogs for the month I am updating in, and just update from the last time I wrote. I think I will be less confused that way, and you might too!

Pizza Theology

Every semester we have an event called, “Pizza Theology”. Our campuses come together and take a deep dive into a topic for 2 hours, have a break for pizza, and then tack two more hours of lecture on. This semester we explored the Wisdom Literature, and it was sooooo good!! The speakers touch on Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and Job, and actually talk a lot about worry, control, and suffering in their talks. If you’d like to listen, the talks are compiled here on Spotify!! The talks are titled, “Wisdom for Dummies” and are broken into 4 audios!

PRAY FOR SICM!

We are taking a group of students to a leadership conference in Bellingham, WA at the beginning of May! There are 25 UTD students going, all who could be potential student leaders for our ministry next year. Please pray for safety for travel, and that God would move powerfully in the students who are going.

Student Testimony!

Here is a student testimony for the month! From one of our very own UTD students attending SICM, Kaitlyn <3

Thank you for your continued love and support for me and my ministry! Thankful for you, and praying everyday for you <3

Love,

Kylie Sanchez
