Do you remember?? (September Update)

Our ministry at the getaway!

I don’t remember much of September because it FLEW BY… let alone the 21st night!

But September was a blast!

The main highlight from this month was THE GETAWAY~ and we sure got away ;)

Every year we have a retreat for everyone in our ministry, about 45 minutes away from campus. We’ve branded it every year as, “Fall Retreat”, but wanted to be more creative this year! So we named it “the getaway” to incentivize our students to leave their school work and craziness behind for a weekend to spend time with God and community.

I have noticed an energy in our ministry this year that I have not experienced on staff, or even as a student here, in all my years here... and I’ve been at UTD since 2017!! They are FIRED UP for Jesus and community, and just seem more willing to be expressive in a way that I haven’t seen… here’s some videos for proof.

Whether it was worship or the Neon Night dance party, they were hype! It was amazing! And so sweet and fun. We had 3 sessions with worship and a teaching time. We structured the 3 sermons to expand on our 3 values for the grove (and our community) this year… rooting deep in Scripture, branching out to others, and bearing fruit of a transformed life. All the talks were awesome and really engaged our students! We had them go on some walk-and-talks, which was essentially them pairing up with someone they didn’t know of the same gender and talking about what they were taking away from the getaway. We played some group games where they got to be silly and connect with one another. One of the games was that you started off with a partner answering a question, face-to-face. Then, when the person leading the game said “Back to back!”, you went back to back and locked eyes with someone. Whoever you locked eyes with was who became your new partner when the person said “Face-to-face!” And we did that for a while, answering questions and getting to know each other!

We also had them pair up with someone from a different core to answer what they were taking away from camp, and that was fun for them to continue branching out and getting to know people across the ministry!

That was the main event for this month! Here are some other things that happened.

Worship night for our Latinx ethnic subministry!

Felipe is a corefa this year, and drums for the worship team. He's silly and goofy and has a sweet heart for God!

More pics from the getaway!

One of the corefas I get to spend time with this year, Grace! We were hype for Neon Night at the getaway!

That's all for this month! Thank you for all of your love and support. xoxo
